Iron Stoves & Stove Plates, April, 2017 Learn all about “Iron Stoves and Stove Plates” at the next lecture in the Cornwall Iron Furnace series on Tuesday, April 11 at the Freeman Hall auditorium on the campus of Cornwall Manor. The program is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Dick Martin, historical researcher and lecturer on the subject of Pennsylvania ironmasters, will be the speaker. Martin’s presentation will encompass the early manufacture of stove plates by southeastern Pennsylvania ironmasters and the artistic designs used by their patternmakers. He will share approximately 40 images and a detailed description of each one. He will talk about the contributions of these ironmakers to early Pennsylvania society and economy. Martin has authored three books related to Lancaster County history, including his latest book, The Ironmasters of Lancaster County (2014). The book describes over 30 ironmasters at many more locations. He took his own photos for the book. He has also completed several lecture programs, including this winter’s “Quest for Knowledge” series in Lancaster, which included seven different lectures The Cornwall Iron Furnace Lecture Series, sponsored by The Friends of the Furnace, is free and open to the public in a handicap-accessible facility.
